Title: New users can't log in to domain.
Post by: centreit on May 14, 2007, 12:38:20 PM
I've just tried adding some new users to a clients sme server (7.1.3) but they can't log on to the domain. Users who already have a cached profile on one of the pc's can log onto that pc, if the pc doesn't have their cached profile they can't log on.

I don't know when this might have happened as I haven't added new users on this server for around 6 months and in that time it has always had the latest updates applied each week.

It seems it may be an SID issue but I have tried changing the SID back to the one contained in the oldest backup of secrets.tdb that I have.

I have seen some other posts about this a while ago but there didn't seem to be a fix.

Does anyone know how to fix this issue??

I've exactly the same problem and replacing secrets.tdb didn't solve the problem either for me. I encountered this problem after upgrading from SME 6.0 to 7.1. Did you upgrade your server (from 6.x)? Apparently, there are two bugs related to this problem: bug 1698 (http://bugs.contribs.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1698) and 1836 (http://bugs.contribs.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1836). You should also post your comment in the bug tracker.

Yes the upgrade was from 6 at some stage (late last year I think), went from 6.0 -> 7.0 -> 7.1 -> 7.1.2 -> 7.1.3 so I don't really know where it went wrong. I would presume it was between major versions but I don't know since I haven't noticed the problem till now.

I have looked through all the bug trackers as well as searched the samba archives but have not found a solution. Even after restoring the old secrets.pdb (from Oct 06) it still didn't work.
