Title: /etc/fstab difficulty ?
Post by: dmajwool on May 15, 2007, 02:16:14 PM
Hi.  Some advice where to look, please.

I have just added a new hard disk to my sme 7.1.3 following the howto in the wiki

http://wiki.contribs.org/AddExtraHardDisk

The new disk is working fine and I've been using it without problems.  It's at /dev/sda1 and I have mounted it at /mnt/sata400

When I reboot the server, the boot up stalls when mounting this new HDD and gives a bad superblock message.

If I rem out the new HDD line in /etc/fstab (with a leading #), the server reboots without mounting the new disk, no problem.

The confusing part for me is that if I reboot the server with the line remmed out and then when the server is running re-instate the new HDD line in fstab and then issue

mount -a

then my new disk is mounted and works as expected.

So I'm not sure why fstab fails to mount my new HDD during boot but manages to do it when the server is running.

Any thoughts or hints?

Thanks

David.
