Title: Moving SAIL & Asterisk to new hardware
Post by: del on June 05, 2007, 08:03:55 PM
Hi All,

I have got my SAIL/Asterisk running quite well and I am happy with it, but I want to build a more up to date server using new hardware, can I install the SAIL/Asterisk rpms on the new server and then transfer my trunks, exts. etc. from my existing server to my new one? If so what do I need to backup/copy from the old server to do it? Normal data is stored in an i-bay so that is not a problem and I only have 3 users and will just set those up on the new server. As usual any help is greatly appreciated :D

Regards,
Del

Hi Del,

The above answer is quite correct and will work very well.  However, there is another way.  If you upgrade to the very latest release of sail on your existing box then there is a feature in globals which allows you to save/restore your SAIL "personality" to/from a USB stick.

Build your new system.   Install SAIL and asterisk.  Shove your USB stick in a USB shaped hole and upload the personality to the new box.

Job done.

Kind Regards
