Title: E-smith/Free-EOS compatibility
Post by: jief on June 06, 2007, 04:36:07 PM
Hello,

One of my clients is running Free-EOS (http://free-eos.org/) at their office as a domain controller/share server. They also use the DHCP/DNS capabilities of it. It's based on E-Smith 5.5.

Code: [Select]

[root@mira etc]# cat /etc/e-smith-release
Mitel Networks SME Server V5.5

Now the only issue we have with the current setup's the filesystem: it's running on Ext2. No journaling. You can imagine, when there's a power outage all the potential problems that could arise.

We decided to upgrade the machine. We like SMEServer and would like to use. My question is this, can I simply backup the Free-EOS config and import it in SME? Has anyone done that in the past? My guess would be yes since both products are based on E-Smith. It would allow me to save time and cost for my client since I wouldn't have to reconfigure all the XP clients.

Thanks for any input on the subject!

Moving this topic to the SME 7.x contribs forum, it is more appropriate there. Thanks!
