Title: Need help connecting to t-com
Post by: mauro on June 11, 2007, 09:13:27 PM
Hello German users,
I need some help in connecting my server to internet.
I just moved to Germany, so my german is not enough to ask for help to T-com... I believe most of my problems are coming from language and not from technical issues!

For our company server we bought a T-com business adsl line DSL16000; I have a Teledat 331 LAN modem. We asked for a fixed IP but I believe that I will have to require this service by logging to T-com customer center website. However, the DSL led is ON so I suppose the link is up.

Now, is the default installation of SMe supposed to work out-of-the-box? I choosed PPPoE as protocol and inserted the username in the form
t-online-com/xxxxx@t-online-com.de and the password when asked, but I can't connect to internet. It seems that pppoe cannot receive any answer from the T-com server and continuously retries.

Is it also right that my modem is a bridge only (not router) and that I'm not supposed to program anything on that? I received the modem from a previous user, so maybe he tampered with the settings... Now it is vpi/vci=1/32 and encapsulation=llc, which I suppose is correct.

Last question: when I will receive my fixed IP, should I leave all settings as they are now except for the username prefix which becomes feste-ip/... ?

What also should I check?
Please advice because otherwise I have to wait for hours to reach a technician on the hotline and then if he doesn't speak English I'm in trouble.
Regards
    Mauro

Guten Morgen Mauro,

the SME6.x and 7.x do work out of the box, no problem, and you have already opted for the correct PPPoE, so far everything is ok. Same for the format of the user login - your input is ok as well. I assume that you have connected the modem correctly to the splitter. When you switch-off/switch-on the modem,  the TDSL LED must flash during the sychronisation with the switching office - this can take up to three minutes or so. Once the synchronisation process is completed, the TSDL LED must light constantly (green light). If it continues to flash, something is wrong.

Where I am unsure is whether the Teledat 331 Lan modem is supporting DSL16000.....better to check the internet for an user manual.

good luck

Hi Mauro,

the teledat 331lan is not certified for ADSL2, that means, u cant use it at 16.000 kbits ADSL... mostly it doesn't work at 3000 kbits...
So u need another modem or Router with an included Modem.
best regards

Thanks for your replies!
I somehow came to the same conclusions, since today I tried to connect directly a Win XP machine and it didn't work. I spoke to someone at the Telekom helpdesk and after several attempts he concluded that there is a problem on the line and they will send a technician on site.
However you are both right, my modem is too old to support the full speed (now it connects at about 2Mbps instead of 16Mbps), but is should at least connect. Just to be on the safe side, I tried another modem (speedport 200) with exactly the same result.

Now let's hope that the technician will come soon....
