Title: Need to replace system disk - Need guidance :)
Post by: itsmartin on June 19, 2007, 01:25:22 PM
Hello,
I am new(ish) to SME

I foolishly built my SME server on a small disk initially as a trial.
Now that I have added LOADS od stuff :) I am loathed to bin it and start again

What I was hoping to do was

Add another disk to the IDE chain
Boot from a CD rom
Use tar or dump to , er, tar or dump the contents of the old hard disk to the new one ( bigger - stronger - Faster )

The question is, How do I do the Lilo - boot block thing

I mean EXACTLY how do I do the boot block thing, as I don't want to lose everything on the way

Is this in fact possible?

Many thanks
Martin

Have a look at the manuals, maybe the FAQ pages or similar.
There are specific instructions re how to add a larger disk to a (smaller) RAID1 array and then "grow" your hard disk from smaller to larger partitions.
