Hopefully someone can help me on this. I applied the DansGuardian upate that was listed in the update panel on Saturday and everything seemed fine. When the server rebooted it stated during the bootup sequence that DansGuardian had FAILED, then there was a quick sucession of red MySQL messages before showing the server command line loggin. I'm not sure what happened but I know internally we cannot access the internet or the mail via clients such as thunderbird and horde. I also cannot login remotely anymore through SSH but we can still access our website from our homes. File services still seem to be ok. I'm in a bit of a pickle as it looks like I might have to delay or even cancel my long awaited holiday. Any suggestions on what to do next would be really really appreciated. I guess I could try and uninstall dansguardian first.

Is this a commercial product from dungog, if so report to them & the bugtracker.
Quick fix might be:
Check your yum logs to see what was updated, uninstall with a
rpm -e packagename
reinstall the earlier version(s).
signal-event post-upgrade
reboot
Golden rule, the last system change occurs a week or two BEFORE going on holidays. Nothing like a nice proven stable system before going on leave.

thanks very much for your quick reply, its much appreciated. I guess I'm having to learn the hard way. I've rebooted the server (I haven't done anything to it yet) and it now seems to be hanging on mysql.init which is a bit worrying, this is of course stopping me from getting to the bash command line. All the other services apart from mysql.init and dansguardian seem to be initializing ok. Is there anything I can do or do I have to do what I really don't want to do and reinstall SME? Any help/hope would be much appreciated. Thanks!

ok, my mistake on the msyl.init as I disconnected the ethernet cable to the router. Now I have access to bash. Ray, I will try your idea. thanks

ok, I just found out the cause and it was nothing to do with DansGuardian, DansGuardian was suffering from problems due to Squid which was suffering problems due to an administrator, me! Basically I had run out of disk space on the server. I guess there is another golden for me, check the obvious first :) I forgot to mount hy USB backup disk and it was filling up the server HD with backups. Sorry about that
