Title: horde too slow
Post by: cirkit on July 21, 2007, 03:15:37 PM
I have installed my server on a 256kbps ADSL line and hosted 3 websites and 6 email users. The probability of people logging in simultaneously is 2. the loading speed of websites, transfer speed of mail via outlook SSL and ftp is at blazing speeds. But webmail Horde loads extremely slow. Is there any way to make it load as fast as the websites them selves?

Have you had a look at the groupoffice contrib in the wiki ? It is very quick and easy to install / setup and it is a lot more friendly than Horde  plus it is a lot faster.

Your 256K ADSL connection is probably only 64K for outgoing data, which is the speed that external users accessing webmail will get, which will probably be a bit slow.

my adsl line is perfect 256kbps because when i ftp from other computers on other isp's i get download speeds in excess of 32kbyte/sec.
so no doubt on adsl speed.

ADSL implies non symmetrical speeds. Your outgoing speed must be much slower than your (theoretical max) 256K download speed, which itself could be somewhat slower than 256K due to line quality & distance etc.

There is also a bugzilla report regarding very slow loading of webmail when there are lots of messages in the Inbox.
Try moving all messages out of the Inbox to see if it runs/loads faster then.

my adsl is a 2mbps download and 256kbps upload connection. hence to clarify the problem of horde which is uploading for server end and downloading for client end i mentioned the max upload speed as 256kbps.

at no point of time there are more than twenty messages in the mail server. as it has been set up just befire a month and there are only two-three users. so emptying the mailboxes should not matter.
