Title: looking for someone to write a contrib!
Post by: mort1504 on August 06, 2007, 04:07:39 AM
I am not sure where i should have posted this, so many apologies if this is not the right place. I have a client that needs a "contrib" written for them. I am not a programmer by any stretch of the imagination. I am looking for someone who is willing to write this program ( i will pay for the development if it is not to expensive) and release it to the smeserver under the gpl. the servers have just been upgraded to 7.2. If anyone is interested please let me know.

I second cc_skavenger.

You may also want to ask on the developers mailing list (http://lists.contribs.org/mailman/listinfo/devinfo)

what we will have is 10 servers. 3 at corporate and 7 remote. All will have smeserver 7.2. what we need is to be able to transfer user names, passwords and permissions to all servers. The end user needs to be able to change his/her password one day (probably on a dedicated server) and have it propagate to the remote servers by start of work the next day. The hitch is not all of the servers will be upgraded only a select few. what i was thinking is, is there a way to configure a dedicated machine that the users could use "user-password" and a program that would let you select the ip address of the servers that you want the information sent to and someway to schedule the transfer of the proper files to update the remote servers. i don't know if this is possible or not. It is not an active directory solution but a transfer of the required data that is needed to update select remote servers with the proper user nformation.

More info please ... :-)

I am assuming that this WAN (remote network) is NOT permanent (ie. the reason you want to cache and then forward updates is that the LAN islands are not always connected).

Are all servers part of the same domain?

If so, why not just configure one server in HO as the domain controller (the one everyone authenticates against - via the Configuration>Workgroup panel in server-manager) and add the other servers as non-domain controllers with their own sub-nets as local networks (via Security>Local networks on the server-manager)?

duh! i knew i was overlooking the obvious. even though the wan does go down every once in awhile it is stable enought to put in the domain controller. i guess all i can say is thanks for the info and i slept last night so i forgot everything i knew before i went to sleep.

thanks for the quick response
