Title: can't email some addresses 530 authentication required
Post by: mike_mattos on August 09, 2007, 09:50:10 PM
My cable internet is a business account with port 25 enabled.  However, some destinations refuse my email, and it's getting worse!

I've now switched to my ISP's smtp server in the control panel, but it delays message delivery, and makes the qmail log worthless.

Am I missing something ?

thx

Mike

The SME manual says

Internet provider's SMTP server: Normally the server will send outgoing messages directly to their intended destination. If, however, you have an unreliable connection or are using a residential Internet service, it may be advisable to route e-mail via your provider's SMTP server. In that case, you should enter the SMTP server's hostname or IP address here

I reckon your IP address has been blacklisted...

Check on www.dnsstuff.com , it may have been blacklisted and this is why the mails are being rejected, or please post the reject message from your log files

spamhaus.org may be a better place to look up to see if your IP is blacklisted.
If you have a dynamic IP on your cable service, then all/most dynamic IPs get blacklisted automatically.

The alternative is to get a plan that has a static IP or send via your ISP's smtp server as you are now doing.

Spamhaus says I'm OK, and only about 1 in 50 was blocked

This is the log for the rejected message

007-08-08 12:35:43.929689500 delivery 15333: success: 208.65.144.2_accepted_message./Remote_host_said:_250_Backend_Replied_[ed0f9b64.2601372592.26030.00-073.p01c11m013.mxlogic.net]:_.6.0__<46B9B889.15131.86_(Mode:_normal)/
