Has anyone tried to put a webcam on their E-smith box?
I have a Connectix Colour QuickCam (I know, I know) and I want to connect it to my E-smith box but the only webcam software I can find requires X-windows installing.
Obviously to keep the pure, clean and un-sullied look of my server I don't want X cluttering it up...
So, any advice? If I bought a different webcam would the situation be any better??
TIA...

Sorry, I've never dabbled in Webcams. However, I can say that there should be no fundamental reason why cam software should need an X-windows installation. It will need driver access, and it will need jpeg libraries, but shouldn't need X.
You may find that only the X libraries are needed, and you don't need an X server and you don't need any X applications. It's just that most cam applications will assume an X environment, and include X tools for accessing, controlling, etc the camera.
