Hello All:
New member here. I have been testing this distro for use with a number of clients. It seems to be a great substitute for MS SBS2003, with most of the same abilities.
My issue is with tape backups. I need the ability to have a deep rotation for my clients. There is often a need to restore a single file from months ago on occasion. But, it seems that most of the other members here rely on a USB hard drive for backup. Further, backup contribs seem to lean in this direction as well.
I have tested and will be using the old Arkeia 5.2 free version with the Arkeia Java client on a MS workstation. But I was wondering if there was a more elegant solution. The built in backup program does work, but only as a disaster recovery function. (Which I will be using it for. Once a month for rebuild purposes, then Arkeia for daily backups).
Any help or discussions on this would be great, and thanks in advance!
Tom

Are you planning on using a tape changer? If not then the deep backup really just depends on your tape rotation method that you use.
I agree that arkeia is much nicer for performing restores and has been all I use for a number of years. Check out the smeserver-arkeia that should be in smedev repo. It should install a panel that allows you to configure the backup system to use arkeia instead of the normal backup solution. I've also recently added tape changer support.
If you have any questions go ahead and ask here and I'll try to do my best to answer them.
