First - apologies if this is not the correct forum for this post. (I searched both "General" and "Contribs" and only this one had some hits, so...). Please feel free to move this post to the correct forum if needed.
Second - This post is really a follow up to the legacy thread mentioned in the above title:
http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=20467.30
Since that forum is closed to new posts, I wasn't sure anyone would see the edit I made to the existing post, so here it is again in a new topic (apologies again if this is double posting).
I guess my good luck had to run out some time...SME and MythTV have been rock solid, but now, due to DataDirect/SchedulesDirect changes (the old source of listings is going dark Sept 1), I think I'm gonna have to muck with a perfectly fine installation to get the schedule data from the new source (SchedulesDirect). I guess the good news is hopefully, atrpms will have released binaries for this stuff soon, but in the mean time -- If anyone out there has some steps for SME 7.2 on how to update Myth/XMLTV/whatever else is needed, please respond. I haven't found any howto's yet, so even if the response is a link to a CentOS/Myth howto, I'd appreciate it. Thanks again. -Dan

AFAIK AtRPMS released the new version 0.20.2 a few days ago already...

I finally got around to updating to the latest mythtv packages from atrpms.
My first road block was the ivtv-kmdl.
Now that atrpms has the ivtv-kmdl for the latest sme kernel, I've run into a new problem:
It appears the latest mythweb has changed to the point where the existing sme howto's don't quite work. I think one of the .htaccess files that needed modifying (according to the old howto's) no longer exists. When I access the i-bay, I keep getting:
Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /mythweb on this server.
Has anyone succeeded in setting up mythweb as an i-bay with the 0.20.2 mythweb?
Thanks again,
Dan
[Edit]
Doh! I made the same dumb mistakes I'd made the first time....and it's working now. Here are the things I botched:
1. When copying the mythweb web app files from: /var/www/html/mythweb/
into the i-bay dir: /home/e-smith/files/ibays/mythweb/html/
I didn't notice the .htaccess file didn't get copied (fixed via: cp /var/www/html/mythweb/.htaccess /home/e-smith/files/ibays/mythweb/html/)
2. redo the steps from duncan on the original legacy forum thread (ref'd at the top of this topic).
3. make sure the ivtv kernel module is loaded (modprobe ivtv).
FYI, there's a new topic on the contribs wiki (that I hope to add to if I can figure out the right way to do some of this...): http://wiki.contribs.org/MythTV

Hi this is as far as i can get. This was using Duncans How Too and his older thread.

I don't remember the exact details, but I thought Duncan's howto said to setup the "mythtv" user and open a shell as the "mythtv" user, and that user did a "startx" (only needed to run mythtv setup).
-
I'm stuck at the "How-To's", installation has been finished, I can access the interface but when I run the mythtv-setup I get 'no file or directory mythtv-setup found'. Can anyone that successfully installed on SME7 help?
Thanks,
-
Ok, so 'yum install myth-setup' was the missing link :-P

Hi,
does anybody have a copy of Duncans How-To please? It seems that http://mythtv.goldtel.com.au is not responsive.
Thanks,

I just posted my version which includes info I got from Duncan's web site. His stuff seemed incomplete but it gave me some good ideas to unblock me.
HF, I know you are experienced, so your feedback is certainly welcome.

Hi - I`ve been swapping over my server hence the link being dead. It`s up again at http://www.goldtel.com.au/mythwiki/HomePage.
My howto is based around compiling mythtv from source (which is my preference) so I think a few steps in the contribs wiki can be ommited if you`re using atrpm`s packages.
-
Duncan,
do you have access to make the necessary changes in the wiki?
However I did try to remove some of the packages that looked optional but it was showing upward dependencies. It might be different if it is done from scratch as opposed to trying to remove it after the fact.
I still don't have wiki access.

Another way to tackle this problem would be to install a distribution that includes MythTV and then run a virtual machine to host SME.

I still don't have wiki access.
Did you file a bug requesting access to the wiki in the appropriate category of the bugtracker?
-
yes. I believe so. I also mistakenly filed a bug because I thought it was broken at first. So there are two reports floating.
I just assumed whoever admins access is just too busy or on vacation at the moment so I was being patient.
