Title: MYSQL Database

Hi All

My company is looking at moving away from the current Access database it has for a lot of their applications. As a newbie to SME (which we currently have 7.2 running as a file server) my question is "is the mysql that comes with SME able to handle 30,000 client records with about 20 users connecting to it? We are unsure of what language we will develop the front end in but I have looked at the cost of purchasing some of the MYSQL database packages, which are way beyond our budget. I have only ever developed databases on Oracle and SQL Server so MYSQL is quite new to me too. What a learning curve!!

If anybody could help or maybe suggest some alternative databases that would run on SME that would be greatly appreciated.

Of course it will.

anything *nix. stick with a major flavor. oracle, postgre, firebird, etc. You haven't given any valid reason as to why mysql wouldn't work though.

Thanks for the reply, i'm totally happy to go with MYSQL I have never used it before and when the IT person and myself had a look at the MYSQL website and saw the price for MYSQL Enterprise, we where just thinking that the SME version might be a cut down version or something.

Thanks for the info, I guess a new learning curve of mysql is on its way! on top of SME
