Title: Opinion about used computer

Currently my SME server is on an older PIII 1000mhz machine with 2 drives and 600+ meg sdram.  I was considering, after finding it in the trash...[hence the screen name] was a Dell 420 dual processor server with 2 800mhz PIII procs, 1 Gig RDRAM.  Would my new found machine be a better choice?  This would be strictly set up for a home server.

Either sounds adequate for home use, I ran a similar machine to your first with less ram for some time and upgrading was more an ego thing than anything else. I've read some of those who know say that you need a p4 or better but for home use I did not have issues. You can just put the old drives in the new machine it that suits your purpose. I'd be concerned about why the second machine was in the garbage, but if you have the time and inclination......
