Hi folks, I've probably done something really silly, but I don't know what, please help!
I have a new (clean) install of SME 7.2, I managed to log into the server-manager fine first time around, but now whenever I attempt to login, I go through the first login dialogue fine, but next I get asked for login & password for "".mymachine.mydomain.co.uk - which confuses me greatly. I have tried standard user, root and admin logins, all to no avail. Any idea what's going on, and how I can fix this? I could nuke the thing & start again, but that means carrying the server down from my loft, not a thought I relish.
thanks in advance

<~~ not an expert but, it might be quicker to reinstall (too bad about the loft).
Funny that it worked once and not again, a typo perhaps or some connectivity issue associated with heaving it into loft?
Have you tried to "putty" in, or look at the basic website. This might help tell if its a connectivity problem or not. If you can putty in you may find a password or other issue. Assuming that you are on the local net, have you tried the local 192.168. yada.yada address instead of the http://myserver address.

hi thanks for the reply. Yes I have tried putty, connection refused. Webmail works fine!! Tried a user that has access to server-manager, and that works fine in webmail, but not in server-manager....
I'm really confused - my only suspicion is the second dialogue box says 'login to "" at mymachine.etc etc'

This sounds out of my league but if you can't putty in, I guess it's coming down from the loft regardless of whether it can be troubleshot (shooted?) or a reinstall is required.
In your fourth sentence you say
Tried a user that has access to server-manager, and that works fine in webmail, but not in server-manager....
Does that mean that another machine can log into the server-manager?
Did you enable remote access when you installed? When you got in the first time perhaps you inadvertently changed something that is refusing access.
Let us know how you make out.

hiya. Thanks for your input - I'll just nuke it over the weekend & try again! Can't get into S-m no matter from what or how. Bizarre that the webmail still works though.....

Not bizarre at all considering that webmail and the server manager run on 2 different instances of Apache.

As it says in bright red every time you post here - "Don't report problems here". Please report bugs and potential bugs in the bug tracker.

Hi folks. Thanks for this, at least I'm starting to understand a little more! I also uncovered the fact that the IDE cable was dodgy, so it was worth hoiking everything out. BTW Charlie, I do take your point, however the bug is undoubtedly in the user, not the software!!! Let me know if I should still be raising issue like this in the bugtracker.
thanks
