Title: Multiple NICs on private networks
Post by: linux.eval on September 08, 2007, 04:47:12 AM
Hi,

I'd like to give SME Server 7.2 a try and I have a couple of questions:

1. Has anybody used a second Ethernet NIC on a private, local network?
I'd like to have multiple (at least 2) NICs on the inside, but configured for different private networks (ex: one for  user's access, the other for backup over another private network).
Is there any custom template or an add-on panel for server-manager that will allow this option?

2. I tried to configure existing local DNS servers (not self) in server-manager, but the resolv.conf still has the IP address for the SME server itself and I'm having name resolution errors. I noticed a similar problem with the NTP servers (reverts to default).
Is there a known issue or it is just my installation?

Thanks in advance.

I should have looked at blissest's post regarding the 3rd NIC...
I do have 3 NICs in the server (different chipsets), which it's configured for "server only" mode. I didn't notice any problems though...

Still, I'd like to use Netbackup 5.1 client and with a single interface configured it's backing up at only 100MB/hour !!!

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance
