Title: Simple request, server-manager.
Post by: spyrule on September 17, 2007, 05:09:56 PM
Hello,

I'm sure this shouldn't be hard to do, but where are the files stored for the server-manager itself?

Reason I ask, is that the Software Installer windows comes in very small, and I would just like to expand the scroll list another 10-20
lines, just to make it easier to read.

I can do the code change, I'm just not sure WHERE the code is stored for that.

Any suggestions/pointers on where to look ?

 Thanks in advance,

 Spyrule

Why not raise a New Feature Request and attach what code you would apply. Thanks.

To help you get started, the code is located in /etc/e-smith/web/panels/manager/cgi-bin/yum ...

Why not raise a New Feature Request and attach what code you would apply. Thanks.
... and the information on the FormMagick template system used could be found like this:
Code: [Select]
perldoc esmith::FormMagick. Information on how to generate and submit patches should be in the SME Server Developer's Guide which can be found in the wiki

BTW I am wondering how big your screens are :-P

The screen that I see is about 4 lines and say... 50 characters wide.  Reality is, on a 19" LCD screen, this amounts to a box the size of... a matchbook, maybe a little bigger.
VERY annoying to try and view all the possible installs/updates that are available to install.

 ***rant on***
and Byte, how about answering my question before asking me to submit my changes, which I couldn't BEGIN to post, because....

I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE INTERFACE IS CODED IN!!!!

 Wouldn't ask if I knew.

Sorry about sounding Tart, but sometimes the "RTFM" type responces are just annoying, and immature.
For alot of people, like myself, getting pointed in the general direction is all I ask for to get started, once pointed, I will try my hardest to figure it out on my own,
if I still cannot figure it out, I will post what I have found, and ask for clarification. After that, once the "project" is done, I will always post how the problem was resolved.

Besides, what the heck else are technical forums for?!?   Exactly the above statment.
 ***rant off***

Thank you very much cactus for directing me where to look, once I have some time in the next few days, I'll post back what I have found, and if I get what I wanted to change,
working... then I'll post it as a permanent patch following the methods in the dev's guide.

 Cheers and thanks,

  Spyrule.

The language is "Perl FormMagic".

And not a RTFM answer, but the "Developers Manual" has actually the info you asked for ..,
http://wiki.contribs.org/SME_Server:Documentation:Developers_Manual (http://wiki.contribs.org/SME_Server:Documentation:Developers_Manual)
and it is pretty god reading to understand some of SME servers quirks and odd behavior  8-)

No its not the Language, Cactus is correct.

Matsk, why do you think I gave bad advice in raising as a NFR ? Please do not click on the bad advice button unless it really is bad advice like you saying the language is ... which is clearly isn't.

***No ranting***
Reason I pointed you to the New Feature Request is that so we can see if it's just your situation that you find the text too small or if it's generally too small, if you posted a NFR we could have helped you and had discussion to include in base. Shame Matsk took that to be bad advice

Ok,

Well byte, had you put it THAT way, I probably would have played along, however your initial cold shoulder answer, didn't leave me with much to follow up with.

Besides, my past experience with these kind of situations, since the problem I am looking at is very minor in the bigger scope of things, I doubt this would get corrected
for quite some time, or it would delayed until the next major update to SME.

I would like to fix this now, without the delays.  Which is why I am willing to do the leg work to get me going, and THEN I'll post it to an NFR for permanency, and I could show
what I did to simplify the work for anybody else.

I apologise for the rant, but sometimes answers like that get to me. Either way, I would rather work WITH anybody here, then against, so I will refrain from letting myself rant again.

 thank you again,

 Spyrule.

That is how I put most of my replies and always with a "Thanks" if you have seen me post in past you wouldn't have taken it as a cold shoulder answer. I can see how sometimes a forum post could interpret being a cold shoulder but that is never the case in my replies.

Are your unning the latest version of SME Server? I vaguely remember a bug that was resolved in SME Server 7.2 increasing the size of this box...

Why did you decide to say my advice was bad ?

I get the idea I have become a victim somewhere... did someone in this thread somehow take his anger out on my bad advice option? is there a possibility to review which of my posts received a bad advice vote? See also 3399 (http://bugs.contribs.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3399)

Just a test byte...

I wonder how can you see who voted a "bad advice" agains't you?
Or is that an option moderators have??
