I have read that there is a console in 7.2 for backup to USB but it is only available on a fresh install. Is there a way to add this functionality to a system that has been upgraded to 7.2? I currently have too much data for a reliable backup to desktop and I would like to use a USB Iomega REV drive for backups. Thanks!

The console has the backup to USB disk option (login as admin).
It's a standard feature either on a fresh install or an upgraded server.
The option to restore from USB disk is presented only when you first boot up a fresh install of sme 7.2, which is appropriate as you should only restore to a fresh install.
There are other backup contribs that add support for backing up (& restoring) to USB disk automatically (scheduled) eg smeserver-dar2 (see dmay contrib area), and e-smith-backup which uses a replacement rpm, see http://wiki.contribs.org/Backup_with_dar
There have been posts about Iomega REV, so search on that as well.

I'm using a REV drive, but at the moment (afaik) none of the backup programs automount a rev tape or have an option to mount the tape before backup. Mounting/unmounting the tape can be done manually of course, but just to give you a head up. Also you'll have to do some commandline adjustments (and the devs don't really like that) to have your REV drive mount as an usb-disk and not a cd-rom drive in /media so you can actually use it as a backup device... search the bug-tracker for this.

jester.

Thanks,
I now have the REV drive working and I am able to make backups to USB. Now my problem is that when I tested it out by trying to do a restore it doesn't mount the drive during the post install process so I can restore. If I complete the installation I can mount it and see the data, but of course there is no way to get back to the restore from USB option. Is there anyway to mount the disk before the post install options screen comes up? I would have thought that it would have automatically mounted as a CDROM device so the restore could at least read from it but I guess I am incorrect in that assumption. Thanks!
