Hello Everyone,
I was testing to make sure that my backups are working correctly by doing a restore on a different server. I am using e-smith-backup with dar and restoring from workstation which is coming from a USB drive. Everything seems to go okay and it says that it has completed and restored all of my data but when I reboot none of my users or settings show up. It does show that my drive now has 5 GB of data but I don't see any of it. I just want to make sure that I am doing everything correctly before I report a bug. Thanks!

Just report the bug. It should "Just work" and it should be next to impossible for you to do the wrong thing.
By posting here, it will take two posts by you and one from me to get the bug report created. You could have done it with just one post in the Bug Tracker.

I have been using SME for the past 7 years and love it and highly recommend it to my clients, so I do have a little experience with it.
I am having this same issue with dar restore and it is probably pebcak, not a bug.
I am testing the restore to a new fresh built server and even though the web page reports that the backup was successful, when I restart it is as if nothing was restored at all. I check in the ibays and users directories and it is still pristine.
Any ideas?
Do I need to name the new server the same as the original? I did copy the backup to another folder. The original backup folder was \\backupshare\compaq.something.com ( server named compaq ) and I copied the backup files to \\backupshare\tester.something.com.
Or is it something else that I have missed?

After the restore completes, did you do
signal-event post-upgrade
reboot
Do I need to name the new server the same as the original?
The restore process should recreate the server with the same name as the original that was backed up.
It should not matter where the backup files resides.
If your problem is not resolved by the post-upgrade signal, then please report a bug. Remember this is a new contrib which is presently under test, so bugs are possible.
By the way, a new version was released recently that resolved restore problems (e-smith-backup-1.15.0-8.el4.sme.noarch.rpm), check the wiki Contribs section for the latest version.

Thank You
I will try this.
