Title: Remote webmail on Dyndns.org?
Post by: gbentley on October 05, 2007, 09:43:22 AM
Is it possible to use SME's remote webmail on a dynamic IP using Dyndns.org?

Something like http://myaccount.dyndns.org -> https://myip

I read some posts etc that suggest only plain http can be redirected.

Thanks (Dyndns n00b!)

If your sme server is configured with the dyndns domain and you use the built in sme dyndns IP updater (assuming gateway mode), then it should work OK without any external forwarding being required.

gbentley:

How are you updating your Dyndns.org - or what client are you using to update it? Since it is not the SME box, is it your Router or Firewall? Many newer routers come configured with a dynamic DNS client. Or you can just use a firewall like smoothwall or IPCop. I forward several domains through multiple smoothwall boxes (mostly with no-ip.com). But I use real domain names with no-ip.com as the nameservers (buying their service).

Setup a firewall or router with a dynamic dns service, then forward smtp, and https through to your SME box. Test away, and let everyone know your results.

Use the ddclient contrib in that case, which you can get from here

Yes that's correct. As the server is not in gateway mode you cannot expect it to control the dyndns account directly.

You need to install the ddclient contrib and configure the dyndns account details in the server manager panel. It will update the dynamic IP changes at dyndns correctly then.
