Title: usb backup and restore
Post by: landymas on October 06, 2007, 01:21:30 PM
I am having the following problem. I have a SMEServer 7.2 box with a Seagate USB drive attached. I can successfully backup the system to the USB device but I have been unsuccessful in restoring. I had a major malfunction so I decided to do a fresh install and restore from backup. The install goes fine and on reboot I am given the option of restoring from USB. When I proceed it says that no USB devices are attached and asks me to connect one. Removint the USB drive and re-connecting does no good. There does not seem to be a way of mounting the device at that stage. The drive mounts ok later on but, of course, there is no option to restore from USB any more.

I tried this on a couple of systems. It may be the specific USB drive/controller combination which is not recognized at that stage but is apparently recognized just fine later on. Any suggestions?

I have a Dell Poweredge with 2 SATA drives which SMEServer makes into a RAID 1 array and 2 GB of RAM. Nothing fancy.
