Hello Everyone,
using http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=38233.msg172742#msg172742 to install Joomla I finally got an installation that allows switching languages.
Now I'd like to add a separate Joomla/Virtuemart installation which should be https from start to finish. It should respond to a different virtual host name hosted at the same ip. I tried SMESiteMaker for creating a separate website and install the http://virtuemart.net/index.php?option=com_docman&task=doc_download&gid=392&Itemid=66 Virtuemart complete package, but enabling php manually for all these sub folders drove me nuts. And I somehow doubt that this would have fixed "everything".
Please advise me on how to procede.
I just got started with sme a few weeks ago and love the ease of getting a secure mail server up and running. But hosting several virtual hosts, which was quite self explaining on ubuntu, comes as a real challenge now. I am not great with Linux and my experience so far was more on the debian / ubuntu side of the spectrum.
So please be patient and explicit in your recommendations.
Thank you in advance and
Best Regards
Stefan

So you want something that won't drive you nuts, but is guaranteed to fix everything easily.

Follow the SiteMaker steps fully and prove it does/doesn't work, before concluding that it won't work & giving up too early.

Thank you for the advice,
I really did not have to change / enable php root directory specifically. The global settings were just fine. I only thought, since joomla heavily relies on php, I'd have to make some adjustments there.
Runs great now.
php is using /tmp for the session save path but there is a work around for that, too.
SMEsitemanager is really one great tool.
Best regards
