Title: Spam slipping through since 7.2 upgrade
Post by: morpheusx on October 19, 2007, 05:47:50 PM
I've been having spam problems since my 7.2 upgrade and want to check I've done everything right before filing a bug.

1. Spam is detected and marked but not blocked. All users are receiving much more spam than prior to 7.2.

A typical header looks like:

X-Spam-Status: Yes, hits=30.5 required=5.0
   tests=BODY_ENHANCEMENT2,FRT_SEXUAL,HTML_MESSAGE,RATWARE_MS_HASH,RATWARE_OUTLOOK_NONAME,RAZOR2_CF_RANGE_51_100,RAZOR2_CF_RANGE_E4_51_100,RAZOR2_CF_RANGE_E8_51_100,RAZOR2_CHECK,RCVD_IN_BL_SPAMCOP_NET,RCVD_IN_PBL,SARE_ADLTSUB2,SARE_ADULT2,SARE_OBFUSEXUAL,SARE_SUB_PENIS,SPF_HELO_FAIL,URIBL_AB_SURBL,URIBL_BLACK,URIBL_JP_SURBL,URIBL_OB_SURBL,URIBL_SBL,URIBL_SC_SURBL
X-Spam-Flag: YES

2. Spam filtering is enabled with sensitivity set to medium. I've also tried custom sensitivity but it hasn't helped.

3. I fixed the broken GPG key and am up to date with all 7.2 patches as of this morning. I've done the post-upgrade steps mentioned in a couple of posts as well.

Any clues? Thanks!

Have you installed all the latest upgrades to 7.2 as there have been a few fixes (since 7.2 was released) for similar problems ?

Try these:
http://bugs.contribs.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3350
http://bugs.contribs.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3351
http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=38314.75
See page 5 onwards of that thread

Search for and read other bugs too, as they may be applicable to your situation.
If any of the fixes reported don't resolve your problem, then report the issue in bugzilla (not here in the forums), either by creating a new bug or adding to an existing bug which seems the closest to your problem.

As I noted, I'm up to date on all SME 7.2 updates, unless there are some not installed by the automatic software update process.

I read through those bug reports and didn't find much help. They are quite difficult to understand (and I've run several development teams - I pity the SME admin who isn't a Linux expert).

I'll open a new bug report and see what happens.

Hi

All problems I got with spam beeing tagged but not moved to junkmail folder were solved by:
Code: [Select]
/sbin/e-smith/signal-event spamfilter-modprocmail
Try and report here.

There is no such event in unmodified SME server.

Charlie nailed it in the bug report. At some point, I'd changed the spam filtering away from 'custom', so SME stopped blocking spam as designed! d'oh!

Thanks for the help.

Charlie nailed it in the bug report.

Can you please show the bug report in case others stumble on this. Thanks.
