Title: Update Error Question
Post by: Teviot on October 30, 2007, 11:19:07 PM
Hi

I have noticed the the following happens quiet regularly when new update are released.

Quote
http://mirror.pacific.net.au/linux/smeserver/releases/7/smeaddons/i386/repodata/repomd.xml: [Errno 4] IOError:
 Trying other mirror.

Is this normal or is there a problem with my machine or the mirror?

Regards
Adrian

Normal if there is a problem with the mirror or connection to it.  That mirror seems to be out of sync or possibly overloaded at the moment and the other Australian mirror (Planetmirror) IS out of sync (has been for a long time).

This is why the devs chose to have multiple mirrors and the "mirrorlist" and "fastestmirror" options in yum.  It tries the fastest mirror first then moves down the list so that if one fails yum can try another then another, etc.

More mirrors are still needed but 5 out of 7 working mirrors is better that 0 out of 1 :-)
