Title: Not getting admin emails anymore
Post by: del on November 11, 2007, 03:39:36 PM
Hi All,

This may be something or nothing but a couple of weeks ago I updated my SME file server and before the update I used to receive 2 emails a day, 1 telling me that I was at risk (SSH turned on) and 1 from clam with anti-virus results and then I would receive 1 telling that updates were available (obviously when updates were available  :-)) but I know only get the clam results email  :-? I know there are updates available because it says so in server manager  :-o I have now rebuilt my SAIL SME server (due to some hardware issues) and the same thing happened  :( I don't get the up date notification email anymore, before I report a bug has anyone else had any problem like this? I hate reporting bugs unless I am 100% sure because I don't want to waste the developer's valuable time.

Regards,
Del

Did you point the admin e-mail to be forwarded to some address or pseudonym?

One of the recent updates was specifically designed to eliminate the daily rkhunter ssh vulnerability notice in some instances: http://lists.contribs.org/pipermail/updatesannounce/2007-November/000025.html

Also, there was some discussion on bugzilla about only notifying admins of pending updates on a weekly basis (some users were annoyed at getting a notice every day...).  I don't know if anything happened on this, though.

Yes it is forwarded to an external email, the same setting as before  :-? I have just sent an email to admin from my email account and I received it almost immediately to the address that admin is forwarded to so that is working. I think I will now turn off the forwarding and see if the update email comes through tomorrow directly to admin, if not I will just do the updates that the server-manager is showing and then wait until some more are available, maybe the latest updates will put things right  :-)

It has been about three weeks since I last updated, I have not received any update emails since

You can also check on the SME Server shell if you have updates available like this:
Code: [Select]
yum list updatesPerhaps there are no updates at all (highly unlikely but you never know).
