Title: Nightly USB Backup
Post by: tad1214 on November 13, 2007, 10:05:59 PM
We are getting set up to have our new dell server be our DC/ and file server here, but we want to make sure we have a nightly full backup.
Right now we have 4 300GB drives in a raid 5 (hardware), and we have a 1 TB external usb drive setup (Go Microcenter!)
Is there a way I can have SME setup to do a full backup to the attached USB drive every night?

Thanks!

P.s. from what I have been reading, there is no way to have a redundant authentication server (BDC basically) right? Even if it is 1 day behind and replicates it  self nightly that would be fine. I don't need redundant files, but the ability to still log in would be nice in the event of hardware failure.

This rpm has moved from being a contrib, to testing stage for inclusion in the base install.

Affa would let you do this.  You can backup multiple times per day; in the event of primary hardware failure you execute the affa --rise command to 'raise' the backup server to primary status.
