Title: Virtual domain not accessible
Post by: csnaus on November 19, 2007, 11:28:51 PM
Greetings!
I am running one virtual domain on my SME 7.2 (with all recent updates) server and I have trouble accessing it from the outside. I am using zoneedit as my dynamic DNS provider and I checked the records there and both my primary and virtual domains are updated to the same IP address as I would expect. However, when I ping my virtual domain name (from the outside), like so: "ping my.virtual.org" it returns completely different IP to that shown in zoneedit records. BTW, I keep zoneedit up to date by ddclient. I guess there is nothing wrong with zoneedit because I can access my primary domain without problems. Anyone can tell me what is going on and what do I need to do to fix it?

If zoneedit is being updated with the correct information but 'ping my.domain.org' returns different information then either the zoneedit data has not yet propagated to the web at large, or 'my.domain.org' is not configured (at the registrar) to direct dns queries to the zoneedit dns servers.

If you have registered 'my.domain.org', login to your account at the registrar and make sure that the name server settings point to the correct values for 'zoneedit'.

If you just made up your virtual domain name then I'd guess someone else is already using it...

Thanks for the reply.
It appears that everything on the SME end is working correctly, it's just one of the nameservers not being updated.
