After clicking in the intstall updates, the updates started downloading and, after a while (and some screen refreshed), I got :

Installed: kernel.i686 0:2.6.9-55.0.12.EL kernel-smp.i386 0:2.6.9-55.0.12.EL
Updated: (all others)
Completed!

After a while, the screen got refreshed to a blank screen and nothing else happened. I did not get the usual 'Reconfigure' button.

The server did not reboot and, from then onwards, I cannot view log file, add or delete hostnames, save changes, etc.

This is not normal for a yum update.

I tried to find a solution from the bug tracker but, since I don't know if its a bug or not, I did not submit a new one.

Did anybody else experience the same problem?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Did you actually do a: signal-event post-upgrade; signal-event reboot ?!

--edit-- Or a reconfigure from the server-manager.

Till now, I did not issue any commands as I wanted to confirm with the gurus first  :)

Let me try it out and will post my outcome very soon.

Thanks

Hi Jester,
I executed the command: signal-event post-upgrade; signal-event reboot

The system reboot and the blue setup screen came up. Then it continued to boot normally.

However, I still cannot see the log files, remove hostnames, edit users, etc from the web page.

For more info, for example, when I click on Software installer, a blank white screen is displayed on the right hand side. The menu is still visible.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

I even tried to select 'Reconfigure' from the Server-Manager but the screen just goes blank (white) with the menu showing and nothing happens.

The mail server (in general) is working. I am still send and receive emails.

However, most of the server-manager website is dead. I cannot view log files, modify users, add users, reboot or shutdown, add hosts, etc.

I don't know from where to start troubleshooting this problem as I am completely new to this world.

Can someone advise please?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

I too have the same problem after getting the following updates-

perl-CGI-Persistent.noarch               1.00-1.el4.rf          smeupdates
perl-Compress-Raw-Zlib.i386              2.008-1.el4.rf         smeupdates
perl-Compress-Zlib.noarch                2.008-1.el4.rf         smeupdates
perl-Crypt-Cracklib.i386                 1.1-1.el4.rf           smeupdates
perl-DBI.i386                            1.601-1.el4.rf         smeupdates
perl-HTML-Tabulate.noarch                0.26-1.el4.rf          smeupdates
perl-I18N-AcceptLanguage.noarch          1.04-1.el4.rf          smeupdates
perl-IO-Compress-Base.noarch             2.008-1.el4.rf         smeupdates
perl-IO-Compress-Zlib.noarch             2.008-1.el4.rf         smeupdates
perl-IO-Zlib.noarch                      1.07-1.el4.rf          smeupdates
perl-Mail-DKIM.noarch                    0.29-1.el4.rf          smeupdates
perl-Quota.i386                          1.6.0-1.el4.rf         smeupdates
perl-Text-Iconv.i386                     1.7-1.el4.rf           smeupdates

So it would appear to be one or a combination of these causing the problem

Also I checked the server- manager httpd error logs
/var/log/httpd/admin_error_log. and found errors pointing to cgi perhaps you could check yours to see if you have similar errors.

Also since it looks like this is not a singular occurrence perhaps you should enter a bug for this.

As it says very clearly at the main forums page:
Please help the developers by reporting any problems to the Bug Tracker first, not here.

... and as it says at the top of any new post:
Don't report problems here - Please report bugs and potential bugs in the bug tracker

Notice the words used are "problems" and "potential bugs".
So as the signal-event post-upgrade & reboot did not resolve your "problem", then lodging a report at bugzilla would be the next thing to do. Please be prepared to provide further information, and please provide as much useful information as you can think to provide in the initial report.

You should also do a search at bugzilla to see if your problem has already been reported and/or resolved.

Keep in mind that you don't need to determine that something is a bug before creating a report at bugzilla, as long as it is a problem ie something not working as expected, then the developers/bug team will assess your problem and determine if it is a bug, and if so, a suitable fix/resolution.
The current protocol is not to resolve problems/potential bugs in the forums, as bugzilla has been setup specifically for tracking problems/potential bugs. If you want a "problem" resolved please use bugzilla in future, rather than the forums.

I have the same issue on one server I upgraded this morning.

In the "server-manager", the main functions work as usually but, when I try to change a few settings, for example, add a new user, then, a blank "white" page appears.

I also installed on the same server the "sme-crontab_manager", that worked very well before upgrading the system this morning, and I'm not able to display any "crons" since I upgraded the server.

It's the same whith modifying "remote access" etc...

Moderators, please lock this thread. All followup should go to the bug tracker. 'byte' has already provided the URL.

Hi there!

I think it's the first time I probably can help someone here!
I useally came here to get help but this time I think I have the solution to this problem and I didn't read last post!

I experienced the same problem after I installed the following:

===
=== yum reports available updates:
===

perl-CGI-Persistent.noarch               1.00-1.el4.rf          smeupdates
perl-Crypt-Cracklib.i386                 1.1-1.el4.rf           smeupdates
perl-HTML-Tabulate.noarch                0.26-1.el4.rf          smeupdates
perl-I18N-AcceptLanguage.noarch          1.04-1.el4.rf          smeupdates

So I did the following:

# yum update perl*
# signal-event post-upgrade
# signal-event reboot

At the end... my smeserver administration page it was working again!
