Title: Thanks Shad for keeping the servers running
Post by: byte on December 30, 2007, 05:23:00 PM
Hey All,

Shad Lords or slords as you all may know him by provides the infrastructure for the SME Server/Contribs.org:

= mailing lists,
= code repositories,
= bug tracking systems, etc.

The contribs team currently provides payment to cover essential costs i.e electricity/heating/air, and has donated one server. Shad, as well as using three of his own servers to run the site and the buildsystem, provides all of the administrative effort voluntarily, so how about we give something back personally from us all matter how small the donation...for example five hundred of us donating $10 will = $5000 and will go a long way to help maintain (maybe even buy) hardware, etc.

See - www.lordsfam.net (paypal button to donate)

If you cannot, or prefer not, to make a personal donation to Shad then please consider donating to: http://www.smeserver.org/donate

Title: Donations spending

Just curious, the post 'Time to pitch in for SME 8' generated substantial donations. I assume these are spread evenly amongst devs such as Shad? Hardly anyone else makes real expenses right?

Even you HF that knows more than most thinks the devs are somehow paid around here.  WOW, what a grand misconception every must have here.

The ONLY cash paid out is for the hard costs mentioned in post #1.  Donations come in waves and Contribs saves them up to pay the expenses during the dryer times.

NONE of the developers are paid anything but the complements they so very rarely receive.

You can make personal donations to Shad as mentioned above.

Or use your sourceforge account you can also make personal donation.  (It is easy to sign up for a SF account if you don't have one):

Shad is here: http://sourceforge.net/users/slords/
Charlie is here: http://sourceforge.net/users/charliebrady/
Gordon is here: http://sourceforge.net/users/gordonr/

Just click that "make a donation" link, it's that easy and I highly suggest that you all click on those links and start paying those developers!

id like to donate to those guys too, but i dont have a sourceforge account.... any other link or email address i can paypal it to?

I have donated to the project and i also assumed wrongly, charlie has helped me out of the brown stuff on more than one occasion.

I understand the project needs supporting and if we were to donate to the individuals (there are more or is it just those 2 genius's) the project may not recieve the level of donations it needs to survive?

maybe a wiki page for the people that do donate so as we know what we should do?

James

I haven't been around much lately but I do use SME and appreciate the hard work that everyone is doing.  SME works so flawlessly in the background it's very easy to forget about it and the hard work that goes into it.

$100 Can ( Is that more then $100 American now??  ha ha )
