Title: SME 7.2 Upgrade Raid 1 to Raid 5
Post by: mdrum on January 03, 2008, 07:36:26 PM
I currently have SME 7.2 installed and running on a server using 2 Mirrored 320GB IDE Drives.  I have just added 4 additional 320GB SATA drives.  I want to get the most disk space so I should be using raid 5 over the 6 drives.  I intend to back up the server then reinstall SME 7.2.  According to the manual SME will install using raid5 over 5 disks and keeping one hot spare.  As this is only a home server I would like the "hot spare" included in the array.  How do I do this ?

For the backup I want to leave every custmisation behind ie I only want to restore Users, Groups, Ibays, passwords, and UPS settings Is this possible.  Or do I need to recreate all accounts etc from scratch.  BTW I use a 400GB external HDD for backup.

Thanks for any pointers

If I'm not mistaken, you need to boot up with the option "nospare" as a boot paramater

You cannot easily selectively remove customisations from the backup.

You can remove the customisations from the server and then do the backup
Alternatively remove rpms with
rpm -e packagename
and/or remove additional custom templates you added.

This may be of some help
