Title: Raid 5 Troubles - Only creating 3 drive set instead of 4.
Post by: lukebeales on January 04, 2008, 01:37:48 AM
Hi all,
    I have a server that is running 7.1 with 4 x 400gb sata harddrives and it was automatically configured in raid5 to allow 1.2TB of storage.  I have another identical server with another 4 x 400gb sata harddrives (same brand - seagate) but with 7.3 it configures it to only allow 800gb of storage which looks to be a raid1 mirror using 3 drives, and a raid 5 mirror using 3 drives.  I am wanting it to be set up the same as the original server (raid 5 with 1.2TB space).  The things I have checked are:

* Hyperthreading enabled/disabled
* No raid settings within the motherboard/bios
* Bios sata settings in enhanced ide mode (same as original server)
* Partitions fully erased on all drives (both with partition manager and writing zeros to beginning of drives)
* Both Bios & Linux detecting all 4 drives

   I am trying a 7.2 cd currently but if that doesn't work the only option I have left is to try a different server (older version of the same model).  Is there anything else I should be looking for or is 7.3 a little different underneath?  Thanks for any help in advance.

Edit: Sorry guys, looks like I may have used the nospare option on the initial server without noting it down.  Lesson Learned!
