Title: POP3 & webmail HTTP to a group
Post by: manegar on January 07, 2008, 12:20:19 PM
Hi,
I would like to know if I can restrict users from accessing POP3/Webmail from external network apart from selected users.

With Regards,

Ivy

perhaps with VPN...

In server-manager/E-mail, set 'POP3/Imap' to 'private' and Webmail to 'disabled'
Then give the 'selected users' VPN access (see wiki docs). Assuming your server is on the gateway.

Regards

[Edit]
'users' & 'selected users' will have to use an email client to access mail.

Thanks for the reply. Well my server is in "Server Only" mode and not in "Gateway" mode, so please let me know how to go abt it...

Thanks & Regards,

You will need to set up port forwarding and ideally some pptp and gre helper on your router / gateway.

The SME VPN system uses PPTP so you need to forward GRE (protocol 47 NOT port 47) and then also port 1723 on UDP and TCP from your router to your SME server.

Be aware though that PPTP does not always play nicely behind a NAT router. An IPCop router or Mikrotik Firewall I have used and have good success making this work.
