Title: Install RAID 5, nospare with 6 disks?
Post by: kevinb on January 11, 2008, 11:44:03 PM
Hello everyone,

I am trying to install SME 7.3 on a system with 6 hard drives. I am capacity hungry so i would like to configure the six drives as a RAID 5 without a hot spare (I have 4 extra drives ready to go if I loose one of the RAID drives). When I install with "sme nospare" I get a 6 drive RAID 6.

How can I install a 6 drive RAID 5?

Or ... How can I install a 5 drive degraded RAID 5 and add the 6th drive after install?

Thank you in advance for your help!

I got it.

Type "sme partition" and not "sme" or <enter> at the install prompt after booting from the CD.

However, the text based GUI does not support logical volumes.
