Has anyone any experience in setting SME Server up to support theses protocols/schemes. I currently use 7.2 as a file server for my home but the inclusion of a PS3 raises the need for a media server compliant with the DLNA.
Any help appreciated.

Hi,
ushare runs without any Problems. I installed it sometimes ago on SME 7.1 running in Server-Only Mode. I used for my Geexbox-PC in our living Room, the only "drawback" was that the Windows Workstation received an anouncment, that there was an UPNP-Server on the Network but you couldn't see the contest from the windows PC.

I never install uPNP server on SME Server ...
And I never would. The idea of allowing programs running on workstations behind my firewall to adjust the settings of my firewall does not appeal to me.

..., say, by downloading a malicious swf file:

uPNP A/V is different then the uPNP you are thinking of Charlie. uPNP A/V allows for Audio/Video devices to discover each other automatically on the same network segment. It is the standard used by most hardware devices to allow frontend players to automatically discover backend recorders/storage devices.

Thanks for the replies guys.
I'm running SME in server only mode - it has no part in internet activities on my network - I use Smoothwall Polar for that 8-).
I'll have a look at some of the suggestions and if I have any success I'll post back with what I did.
Thanks again !

Sounds like a how to or an expansion of your comments would be helpful.

Is it a contrib or a custom install ? I'd be interested to read how you implemented it.

I found this guide (http://sokoll.net/doku.php/pastimes:computing:sme_server:twonkymedia_on_sme_server_7) for installing Twonky. Seems easy enough, can anyone see any problems with it. Reports claim that it uses a lot of CPU cycles, is this true. I'm running SME on an Athlon 1.6GHz with 512MB and a 320GB Drive.

Twonky is not free AFAIK

Twonky is not free AFAIK
It is for the first 30 days .... :D

I use this guide too.
Work great for me with a pinnacle soundbridge, testing with my gigaset M740...
You have a demo version for 30 days....
My opinion, 30 Eur is not very expensive for a software.
My sme server is a sempron 2400 and 1gb ram.
Best regards,

Twonky isnt overly cpu intensive. Ive been running it for years on my server (an old Duron 800) with no problems. I only play music via it though (Netgear MP101). Well worth the price as well btw :)

Hi Ian,
the Setup was really straightforward:
I enabled the Dag repo, and then installed ushare. After that i had to adjust the the ushare.conf and then start it. An alternative would be to ssh on your server and start ushare manually and then connect via the webinterface and make your adjustments.
http://ushare.geexbox.org/
After that I had to google a bit to find a sys-init startscript and then make all the symlinks.
I noticed the following drawback, when you copy files to the share UPNP-Published Share it will not update the list, therefore the service needs to be restarted via ssh or the webinterface. The webinterface has the drawback that if it is accessible one could change the path of the Published Folder to "/" therefore i locked the webinterface that one could use it.
I am sorry that I cannot offer a better howto, because after a certain time i uninstalled ushare because I got NFS on my SME-Server to work and Geexbox works flawless with Sme-Server.
Hope this will helps, if something remained unclear please ask :-)
