Hello, quick question.
I am about to install sme 7.3 on an Asus PU-DLS mainboard with an adaptec 2010s scsi card.
I have created a hardware RAID-5 array with 3 drives.
The installer doesn't recognise the array without the driver.(surprise surprise)
On Asus's driver website, they have multiple Red hat drivers available
The driver is Adaptec AIC7902 Ultra320 SCSI Driver for Red Hat
There are 4 different drivers for RedHat available - 7.2, 7.3, 8.0 and 9.0.
While its nice to have a choice, which should i use?
I guess this question should be rephrased as:
what version of Redhat is sme based on/compatible with?

They are really old versions of Red Hat Linux

SME 7 is based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 (EL4)
SME 8 is based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 (EL5)
They also coresspond to CentOS 4 and CentOS 5.
Try the CentOS forums as you will get a bigger audiance for such a generic problem.

This is the compatibility table in my note
RHL 7.2 = RH Enterprise Linux 2.1
RHL 7.3 = ?
RHL 8.0 = ?
RHL 9.0 = RH Enterprise Linux 3
Fedora Core 3 = RHEL 4 = SME7.X
FC 6 = RHEL 5 = SME 8.X
FC 9 = RHEL 6
SME Server 7.x based on Centos 4.x
CentOS 4.x is based on RHEL4
Your best shot is RH 9, IMO

While searching i found some more info:

so yes, I will try the version 9.0.

Will these drivers be kernel dependant? 2.4 Vs 2.6 ?
SME 7 is kernel 2.6
For me, I would d/l a newer RPM from Adaptec, extract the Floppy image and install with the dd option. But thats just me.
Pick the top one (http://cms.adaptec.com/en-US/downloads/rh/rhel_4?productId=ASC-39320-R&dn=Adaptec+SCSI+Card+39320-R)
Others may suggest, let Linux do the RAID stuff for you.

Is there something in the cards bios to select i2o mode? or similar?

From some reading, the Adaptec AIC7902 Ultra320 SCSI sub-system may be supported out of the box.
It could just be the Adaptec NightHawk2 ASR-2010S Zero-Channel Raid card causing issues.

Go on.. try the beta iso.
At the install prompt type sme noprobe and then pick i2o from some list that pops up. :?

Your suggestions and recommendations mean I am now installing sme 7.3 on the adaptec 2010s in a RAID 5 configured array!!!
In case anyone has this prob with the Adaptec 2010s, heres how I did it:
I downloaded the Adaptec driver from asus website for the PU-DLS mainboard:
Adaptec AIC7902 Ultra320 SCSI Driver for Red Hat 9.0
I extracted this within windows and used the included floppy imager to create fdd image.
I booted to sme, typed sme and enter.
When the hard disks not found message comes up, I specified the driver on the disk, and it loaded.
THEN I ADDED THE I20 block driver thats build into sme7.3.
And voila - now its installing.
Without the I20 driver, sme didn't report no drives, but it did report:
(not exact quote) "No valid devices were found on which to create new file systems"
but with the I20 driver as well....everythings looking a lot rosier....
William, thanks again for your advice.
Your "Thread of interest" helped greatly, but your suggestion (Re sme 8 BETA) to "then pick i2o from some list that pops up. " was the key.
Re trying sme8......this will be a production server, to replace my other sme running 7.0, so i think ill wait a while....
