Title: Adaptec Serial ATA RAID 1210SA
Post by: JJSH on January 24, 2008, 06:11:46 PM: I'm in the process of building a server for someone, and want to install a Adaptec Serial ATA RAID 1210SA controller. It states that it is Red-Hat compatable, am I safe to assume it will be recognised by SME 7.3?

I think it should as SME Server is based on CentOS, which in turn is based on RedHat. However you might need to check which version of RedHat supports this controller as SME Server is based on CentOS 4.6 and that is based on RedHat Enterprise Linux 4. The new release SME Server 8 will be based on Centos 5.1 which should be based on RedHat Enterprise Linux 5.

I recently had an issue with and adaptec 2010s scsi card (scsi not SATA) while installing sme 7.3.
The only drivers avail. were for redhat 7.2 through to redhat 9.

Following the advice i recieved in that forum, i tried and successfully installed the card using the redhat 9 driver. (i also had to install the i20 driver - but thats prob. irrelevant to sata?).

I'd try a red hat version 9 or later driver.

I also wasnt aware of the different versions of redhat, with different revision numbers for different versions... Red hat enterprise linux version numbers are different that redhat. To quote thomasch:

"RHL 7.2 = RH Enterprise Linux 2.1
RHL 7.3 = ?
RHL 8.0 = ?
RHL 9.0 = RH Enterprise Linux 3

Fedora Core 3 = RHEL 4 = SME7.X
FC 6 = RHEL 5 = SME 8.X
FC 9 = RHEL 6
SME Server 7.x based on Centos 4.x
CentOS 4.x is based on RHEL4
Your best shot is RH 9, IMO"

Nope:
RHEL4 -> CentOS 4 -> SME Server 7.x
RHEL5 -> CentOS 5 -> SME Server 8.x
