Hi,
would like someone to tell me if this sounds ok before I start...
Have SME7.x box that I want to back up & a XPserver that back's up everything that is on itself.
plain is to mount (using cifs) the remote XP box, then run rsync to backup it's self to this now (well looks like) local mount.
I know I could run rsync.d on XP server, but think this may be nice and clean + the XP server is not mine to play with.!
Will this work, and will file permissions and hard / soft links survive the move to a ntfs file system?
Any comments welcome.

No. Rsync SME to XP drops all SME/Linux ownership and file attributes. Not recommeded and hence why other contrib solutions exist.
