Title: Proxy auth & SME 7.3
Post by: Spanner_Man on February 06, 2008, 06:05:29 AM
Now i've done a search across this forum to see if this same question was asked but i couldn't find anything close.
First i'll tell you about the setup and what i want to achieve.

The gateway is running a fresh install of SME Server 7.3
2 x NIC's, intending to be a server and a gateway.

What i want is for when my friends come around and for when i want to give the neighbours some internet access i can just add a username and password in via https://gateway/server-manager/cgi-bin/useraccounts and they will have access to my wireless.
I don't want anything fancy, or a captive portal page or any of that, just the ability to make squid check for those usernames/passwords on internet access.

If there is a way for squid to ask for a username and password, and checking against the users within user accounts?

And i'm sorry if i didn't do a proper search but if possible please post the link in question.

Thank you for your time.

Thank you RayMitchell
It works a treat and exactly what i wanted.
I'm not running a hotspot so i don't need accounting or anything like that, just something simple and easy.
And by looking through Filter Groups i was able to add my Internal IP address in so i wouldn't need to constantly re-enter auth details :-)

Moving this topic to the SME 7.x contribs forum, it is more appropriate there. Thanks!
