Title: SME 7.3, fresh install, wont boot
Post by: mickras on February 26, 2008, 01:02:55 PM
I have done an install of SME 7.3 on an older server. Installation went fine, but the server wont boot. After I get the "SME boot screen" where I can select which OS to boot from, the screen just goes in black and nothing happends (no disk activity or anything).

I'm a real newbe to SME and Linux in general, so I have no clue on where to start looking. Any suggestions?

Please report bugs and potential bugs in the bug tracker. Thanks. Please detail you hardware in the bug report once you've opened one. Thanks.

Assuming you downloaded the cd did you check (md5) the "iso" it before burning?

It's been a while since I installed from disk but I seem to recall that there is an option to check the disk ( I may be delusional)

Sorry, I'm not familiar with the process here. Does this mean I should have reported this question in the bug tracker and not asked here in the forum, even though it's probably not a bug?

Yes, I did check the MD5 check sum, and it was correct.

That's correct because SME Server has a general rule that "if it doesn't work out of the box, report a bug" this way our core developers will see at first hand whether this is a potential bug or a user error and we will either fix or point you in direction of support of user errors to these forums.

We try to limit amount of time our core developers spend on these forums due to limited amount of time and limited amount of resources we have. Thanks.
