Title: Connecting to an Exchange Conference
Post by: rhutchence on March 03, 2008, 04:55:44 AM
Greeting all,

I've had a look through the forums and I haven't been able to find an answer for this.

For the last couple of years I have been using SME and found it quite good.

I work at a school, and a need has arose where student we have students whom study some subjects by Distance Education. One of the requirements is that they need to connect to a Microsoft Exchange Conferencing Server which uses Microsoft Netmeeting. I can go through the whole process of logging on but the local workstations can not connect to the server.

I have done some extensive testing and found that the problem seems to be with the setup of our SME based proxy server. Normally, with the way that our network has been setup, we don't enter a default IP. I thought that this could have been the problem. Even after having a static IP address and specifying the Default gateway I still cannot join. I then proceeded to try connecting to the same server with a direct line. This was successful.

From what I can tell, SME would seem to be stopping Netmeeting. My first thoughts are that perhaps SME either doesn't know about the T.120 protocol or it has been locked out. Could I please have some advice as to how I would be able to enable and open up Netmeeting (T.120 protocol).

I'm running version 7.3 (i686)

Regards.

Are you sure it is a problem with the proxy server?

Have you tried disabling HTTP Proxy in the server-manager and testing?

I haven't tried that yet. I'll give it a go and let you know if it works.

Ok, turning the Proxy off didn't work as it then disables the whole internet access.

As soon as I turned it off, I wasn't able to refresh this page and Horde Mail went down.

It shouldn't disable the internet access but it will change how your local machines access the internet.

Did you try closing your browser and re-opening it?

You will also need to disable any proxy settings in your browser if you disable HTTP Proxy.

I would rather not do this as it would have huge implications on the rest of our network. Everyone is going through the proxy and it would be too much pain to get everyone to change just for a couple of students. Is there a way to allow specific users to bypass the proxy?
