Title: Missing rpms from contribs area

I’ve noticed a bunch of rpms and source rpms are missing from my contribs folder.
Not sure if this a mirror issue or,  has someone put the broom through the whole directory?

Yes the admins have done clean-up, all RPM's listed in upstream repositories were removed and AFAIK self written RPM's (where a SRPM was available) were imported in SME Contribs CVS (http://fisheye1.cenqua.com/browse/smecontribs/rpms/), if so have a look at http://wiki.contribs.org/Package_Modification (http://wiki.contribs.org/Package_Modification) and http://wiki.contribs.org/Releasing_Contribs (http://wiki.contribs.org/Releasing_Contribs).

After following contribs.org requirements, you kick for a goal and the admins move the goal post, without notifying the members.

AFAIK it has never been the goal to put (a lot of) RPMs, (certainly not packages maintained elsewhere, which might or might not have been the case for you) in your contribs directory. Please direct you questions on why and what to admin_AT_contribs.org, as they will be able to comment on that.

Well then, do you have knowledge of the clean up??? Thats my point, I didn't.
Were you aware of this, who made the decision? How were you informed?

And to quote myself as well in answering your question, if you are not willing to ask them then that is your choice. Only they can explain why they did not inform you.

Ah...yes - to quote, quote and double quote…etc, not answer to the questions posted. That’s all BS.

Not going to get a straight answer today.

Lesson learnt.
Backup.

No you have not learned you lesson, so it seams to me. If yiou would send a e-mail to the provided e-mailaddress and state the problem and ask you questions there you would most likely receive a message stating what was done for what reason.

No one is stating they did not make a backup of, most likely they can retrieve it for you, but you must understand that the contribs.org space is not meant to be a storage location let alone a backup location.

Never mind, found a lazy mirror that hasn’t synced yet.

For others, over here
http://www.gtlib.gatech.edu/pub/linux/distributions/smeserver/contribs/

As you can see they are all SME related. I kept not only the new as well the old, a stepping platform for a newbie given we all remember our humble beginnings.

Furthermore, I must have misread this…

Sorry for the delay.  I set you up with ftp access just now...

host - contribs.org
user - sognenovski
pass - xxxxxxxxxxx

You get chrooted to the right directory when you log in.

Upload whatever you like, but remember to upload src rpms as well with
any rpms you upload.

Also, when you direct people to download stuff, please give the url:
hxxp://mirror.contribs.org/contribs/sognenovski/
...to save us bandwidth
(mirrors update every 2-6 hours)

You can check stuff yourself sooner at:
hxxp://contribs.org/deletedURL

Let me know if you have any trouble logging in.

Thanks,

Greg

As for locking this thread…. best keep that opinion to myself for now.

http://www.gtlib.gatech.edu/pub/linux/distributions/smeserver/contribs/sognenovski/RPMS/

As you can see they are all SME related.

Looking at that directory there are a ton of rpms that aren't related to sme and are available from major upstream repos.  Many of them also didn't have source rpms as they weren't built by you but just copied over from somewhere else.

I also notice that you have logged in and removed ALL of your files.  I'm sorry to see that you feel you have to completely withdraw everything.  I'm sure more then just you benefited from your contributions.

You have been told that if you have a problem to email those that can fix it.  If you want to sit here and complain then nothing will ever get done.
