				Hi All,
I have (possibly  a unique situation) where I have been asked to assist in upgrading a SME 6.0.1-01 (Raid 1 set up) to latest
7.3, however, I can not currently gain physical access to the the machine needing the upgrade, but still need to show a "proof of concept" that the old SME 6.01-01 can be upgraded:
My idea is to:
- set up a new SME 7.3 and install the Affa contrib
 - Use Affa to backup the SME6.0.1-01 ( currenlty +- 42Gb Data- primarily in mail and Ibay data) after removing all custom contribs
 - Move the affa backup onto a USB drive
 - Set up a second test machine with fresh 7.3 install
 - Mount USB drive and use CopyFromDisk

Or, the less problematic way:
- Fresh install 7.3
 - Manually Re-create Ibays and 50 users with server-manager
 - Import the mysql DB's using the mysqldump file off the USB disk as well as the ibay data

Comments , suggestions or "beatings   :-D "   please ?

				Hi
my experience:
upgrade from sme 6.0.1 to sme 7.2.. about 8 GB of data..
done with affa.. no problems at all..
just remember to remove all contribs and/or to rename custom templates directories (as per CopyFromdisk howto) after the copy..
HTH
Ciao

The CopyFromDisk has also worked for a number of people and is part of the base distro

yes, I know (worked for me too in 4/5 cases)..
but with affa the downtime is.................. ridicolous? :-) ?
naturally I'm talking about an HW and SW upgrade..
