Title: Change in motherboard result in kernel panic
Post by: brianr on April 04, 2008, 11:09:51 AM
I have had to change the motherboard in a 7.3 system, and the new motherboard needs a different SATA driver (SATA_piix), consequently the  system boots up, but gives a kernel panic.

I can get into "rescue" mode with the 7.3 install CD, and can also do an upgrade, but the resultant system still fails to boot up.

On boot I see a

ERROR: /bin/lvm exited abnormally! (pid 437)

and a little later, immediately before the kernel panic:

umount /initrd/dev failed:2

Anyone any good ideas before I trash the system and restore from backup?

Did you fix your problem?
I'm having the same issue after a power failure.
This seems to be a common problem with SME :(
