Title: SME Loses Connection to the Router Randomly
Post by: vegaslaptop on April 08, 2008, 12:58:03 AM
Hello everyone,

I have this unique situation that baffles me. I installed and transferred files to my 7.3 SME setup and now I have a weird problem. Very randomly the server will not be available on the network and if I go and unplug the ethernet cable and plug it back in, the connection is back on. After a few times, this is not working anymore. I have to restart the server and everything is back up again for a few hours (sometimes 3-4 hours, sometimes 24). I know many of you would suggest router, cable, connection, router settings... I have done all of that.

I replaced 2 CAT5 cables - nothing; replaced 3 routers - nothing; set the routers to reserve the ip assigned and tried different settings - still nothing. One time only in this past month I got a kernel panic error.

How can I turn on debugging to get a little bit more info on this issue? Every day I have this problem. I doubt it's the hardware but I am about to replace that now. Any ideas before I start installing SME on a different hardware?

I have not seen similar thing and I have installed SME more than a dozen times. Is this a problem with the current 7.3 version as I see somewhat similar problems when I search the forum but not exactly as mine?

Thanks in advance!

Did you try replacing the NIC card itself?

Replaced NIC card and all is good. The server is running just fine.

Can you please share to us what is the brand and type of problem NIC ? Are you replacing with same brand/type NIC?
