Title: HP NetServer LC3 and NetRAID
Post by: Ulf Helmert on April 19, 2002, 01:15:12 PM
Got me a slightly used HP NetServer LC3 with a NetRAID controler and 3 9Gb disks in RAID 5. I have erlier installed SME 5.1.2 on a HP e-800 server with a NetRAID-1 controler whithout problems so I thout this would be a nobrainer but that was not the case. The installation do not recognise the raidcontroller so I whent to HP's web site loking for drivers. There I found drivers for Redhat 7.1 but now the proble is how to modify the SME installation to load and use these drivers. I want to install on the RAID set because there is no other HHD's. In WinNT you cot the option to halt the installation and load a OEM driver but what options does the SME installation give you? Im not a totaly newbie to Linux so if anyone could give me a hint I hope to work this problem out.

To get the SME installer to ask for a driver disk during installation, you type in

accept dd

where you'd normally just type accept.

However, if the drivers did not come on SME's own driver disk, I won't hold my breath about using the RH 7.1 drivers you found. The kernel used in SME 5.1.2 is 2.2.19 (which is NOT the normal kernel found in RH 7.0 or RH 7.1) as drivers are usually tied to the kernel version the're compiled for.

However, that said, no harm trying.
