Title: Sata Driver for Acer
Post by: sadbassa on April 15, 2008, 11:30:10 PM
Hi, I have stripped the bones from a new Acer Aspire M1610 and I am going to rack mount it as a file server using SME server. The only problem I have is that the SME set up cannot find the sata hard drives and I wonder if anyone knows if there as acer sata drivers or a hack I can use to get round this. I have looked elsewhere but to no avail.

Thanks

Steve

Just a guess: try to enable AHCI on BIOS (if available)... or to change SATA configuration on BIOS.
I have a new Celeron I need to enable SATA AHCI on BIOS to be able to install... without it SME7.3 see no HDD to install. After enable it SME7 loaded AHCI driver and everything works fine (20 days now).

Good luck

Thx Jáder it worked on an Acer Aspire R1600 Atom-based SFF... changed to AHCI on the BIOS and chose AHCI driver and everything went OK.

Could you please tell me how to select AHCI driver ? I am also trying to install (7.5) on Acer R1600 and it is unable to find the drive. I've tried setting BIOS to AHCI, but no change.

Thanks in advance.

install SME8, it should work.

next time, be sure your hw is RH certified before buying it ;-)

Thanks for info. SME 8 does install and generally works, but subversion won't install (dependency problems), and I'm generally not ready to trust my data to beta server. I assumed (yeah, I know what happens when you assume) that since this PC supports Linux it should work. Find another PC, I guess.

Thanks,
Randall
