Title: homes not showing up in windows explorer
Post by: jodahall on April 23, 2008, 10:10:37 PM
Hi.  I'm running sme 7.3 and have a stupid issue that i can't figure out.  it's probably just me, but i haven't found any information on it when i was searching.

i have a small home network that is setup with a workgroup instead of a domain.

i have a few users setup through the server manager, i gave them passwords and stuff.

on their xp boxes i have tried to get to their home directories on my sme server, but they don't show up in the network places ??  when i click on my sme server it asks for a user id and password, i type them in but it doesn't like them, no error or anything it just asks for it again.  when i uses the admin user and password it allows me to connect to the sme server, but no other user and passwords work.

one note

the users don't have passwords setup on their xp boxes, however i tried to setup a xp password on the desktop, but that didn't make a difference connecting to the sme server.

when i connect using the admin user, none of the other users homes directory shows up, i think that is correct but i don't know.

I really think you should review the manuals here:

http://wiki.contribs.org/SME_Server:Documentation

All of what you mention is covered in there, I operate both Domains and workgroups connected to smeservers, and the system works exactly as it is expected to.

???

In server-manager do the accounts show as locked?

Can you log into webmail (http://your_server_name/webmail) with any of the users names and passwords?

This is the correct behavior
