Title: Can read files, but Cannot write
Post by: josempinto on April 29, 2008, 07:03:20 PM
Dar friends,

Since an update to SME SERVER, (yum update), where the version changed from “SME Server 7.2” to “SME Server 7.3” that I am unable to write files to ibays on SME server.

Using windows browsing, I can navigate to the server, and see the folders, and the files on it, copy them to my pc, and so on, but I cannot write. When I try to change or put a file I get a windows error.
As I said, this behaviour changed since an upgrade.
I haven’t changed anything, on the SME server configuration.
I was used to do, and do work, this way, without any problem. Now I have to use FTP to be able to upload files to the server… Why have you changed this without notice?

How to solve this? Any suggestions?

What well it’s going on the developments you are doing?

And, Above all this, is that the control panel was not been updated with the options/settings to configure this. I have visited all the menus, and I cannot see where to set /change this well sheet of new and undocumented feature…???

I think I will have to STOP updating my SERVER!

Thank you in advance if anyone can help.

Have the permissions changed here?

I believe the permissions for FTP and File sharing are set at the same place so FTP and Windows shares should  carry the same settings??........

Nop! In addition I am accessing as root user, so I should be able to access and do everything (I think so)
In addition, I am trying to access the Primary (Primary i-bay), and on this i-bay, we do not have this setting.
With this password I can write on the various i-bay’s I have set-up, but on the Primary (Primary i-bay) I cannot write.

What type of error do you want, do you want a print screen of the message (in Portuguese"), of the windows saying (translation) that windows cannot copy the file, the access was denied, to get sure that the disk is not write protected and so on...???

Is this an affirmation or a question?
Anyway, I can give you more hints, at the same time I ask the fallowing: why, by ftp, using the same user and password I can write files, and using windows browsing, I only can browse folders, read and copy (to my pc), but cannot write?
Why this only happens on the Primary (Primary i-bay)?

This was a question as FTP and Windows browsing should work exacty the same. I was trying to think through if the problems could be server settings.

I think I can remember something about a change in the Primary Ibay around the time of the 7.2 or 7.3 update. I think my problem was that I was running Dynamic content (PHP in this case) on the website in that Ibay. Once I went to the next version There was no longer an option to change any settings on Primary. I worked around it by creating a new Ibay for that Domain and no longer use Primary.

However,
On my 7.3 I can log into the server with Windows network as admin and read and write files on Primary. I am unable to log in as root with Windows browsing.

I know that “I must, to” to You all, and specially the dev. team a word of tank-you about this  wonderful piece of software (SME SERVER). I haven’t done this yet, because that word as to be sincere, and to do that, in that way, I must have time. And I to not have that now.
But I promise, that later on, I will do that! I will do that, on this the topic, and some other topics I have opened and working now/wainting for replies... .

I think you (both "snoble" and "mercyh")have hit the right point, I will test, and (I promise that) I will thank you, and post the results, whem I have time.
