Title: Email error.. Failed sending the mail. SMTP Error: Data not accepted.
Post by: Cottontail on May 06, 2008, 01:05:55 AM
I experienced a power outage where my server took a hit. After which I have lost email sending and recieving ability. An observation of htop against a functioning instance of the same version (7.3) SME showed no obvious difference. pop3, smtp-auth-proxy, qmail, imaps, qpsmtpd, pop3s, and imap are all currently sleeping but on the ready ( i believe) Upon attempting to send an email, I get the message
Failed sending the mail. SMTP Error: Data not accepted.
This same message appears within all my clients; Horde,Groupoffice, and egroupware. What could be the cause of this and to where should I look to better observe this issue?
Thanks in advance..

hey there
my problem was my ISP blocked port 25. After testing ie. scan ports (grc.com), commandline etc and running out of options i decided to contact my ISP and low & behold they had blocked port 25!

In your case it would be a good idea to check your logs (/var/log/qmail, /var/log/qpsmtpd) to pinpoint the problem. There are numerous posts on contribs pertaining to mail troubleshooting....sorry i couldn't be of more help. Good Luck!
